PKMN Crossing - Brunhilda

My resident application for PKMN-Crossing.

27/07/13: Updated Brunhilda's application to the new TPC one. Redid the art since how I draw Brunhilda has changed from the original. She's chubbier and her dress is longer.
Added her characteristic. I think the choice was obvious. Oh, she has a surname! Plus her birthday occurred during the hiatus so she's 26 now.

Once Brunhilda sets her mind to something, she will pursue it relentlessly. She is dedicated and tries hard, focussing on tasks until they are finished, going the full Watchog, as it were, which can make her a bit obsessive. If she thinks she is right about something, she will do everything she can to prove it. She does not like to be wrong, and will sulk for a bit if proved to be so. She will never pretend she knows something, she just might not admit she doesn’t know. Due to this hard-headedness she can seem a bit hard to approach, especially as she does not always realise she comes across a bit forceful but she is quite a nice Pokemon really, once you get the hang of her. She has no qualms about approaching others though, particularly when it comes to the subject of food.

HOMETOWN: Nacrene City

HISTORY:

Brunhilda is the only daughter of a Watchog and a Smeargle that set up their home in Nacrene City. Contrary to the expected occupation of a Smeargle, Brunhilda’s father is an archaeologist who works for the Nacrene City Museum. This meant he travelled around many of the regions for his work. Meanwhile Bruhilda’s mother stayed home and cared for her daughter whilst occasionally helping in the local café. Her mother was quite a competent cook but her repertoire was limited. Most of her meals used Chesto Berries as a base ingredient and whilst Brunhilda enjoyed them well enough, she just did not find them interesting. Eating was more a necessity than anything else, as far as she knew, that is really all there was to it.

Brunhilda fell in love with food when she was still quite a young Patrat, when her father was able to get a Casteliacone whilst the two of them were visiting Castelia City. He had talked a lot about how delicious and popular they were before but his words had not really meant anything to Brunhilda because food was not something she had ever found exciting. That changed on her first lick. The amazing flavours set off sparks on her tongue and in her head. She had never experienced anything like it and if one thing could taste so good, then surely more could too! From that point on she became determined to try as many new foods as possible.

However, she was still too young to venture very far without supervision when she set herself this goal, so for a long time she had to settle for pleading with her father to bring her back new things for her to try when he was away from home. In the meantime, she started learning to cook. She started off simple, with her mother teaching her the basic recipes she had grown up eating. As she got older though, she began to experiment with her own recipes. She even tried recreating some of the things her father brought back, like Lava Cookies, Old Gateau and RageCandyBars, though it was not always very successful.

Her favourite thing for her father to bring back was Poffins. She particularly loved spicy ones. She never could figure out how to make them herself though and they always burnt. She also liked getting berries. There were so many more berries than she could have conceived of, with so many different flavours. However, some berries were harder to obtain regularly, which frustrated her enormously. She began to long for an orchard in which she could grow her own berry trees. Unfortunately, there was not really any space for such a thing in Nacrene City, being surrounded by thick forest, so for her 14th birthday her father brought back a very special present from one of his visits to the Sinnoh region: berry pots. This enabled Brunhilda to grow berries on her windowsill to her heart’s content. She only had four pots though so could not have several trees on the go at once, thus she would work on a rotation. Whatever she grew and harvested would be what she used in her cooking until all except one were gone. She would keep the last berry for replanting at a later date. This meant she started to have a steady supply of berries and her father did not have to bring so many home with him.

Brunhilda evolved into a Watchog when she turned 18. Finally old enough to leave home, she decided she wanted to visit as many places as possible to sample the food and figure out how to make it for herself. As a going away present, her parents gave her TM35, Flamethrower, since they thought it would come in handy with cooking. She travelled around various regions for seven years. Sinnoh was her favourite region to visit as they are quite mad for berries there. She encountered quite a few her father never managed to obtain. Sinnoh was also the home of Poffins, her favourite thing to eat; hence she spent a year at the Poffin House in Hearthome City finally learning to successfully make them for herself. She also spent a considerable amount of time under the tutelage of Kilo Gramsey, a Snorlax who lives in Vermillion City. Whilst most Snorlaxes could happily eat anything, this one only liked the best and made it his life’s work to make himself the very best food. He thought Brunhilda was a kindred spirit and admired her determination. He taught Brunhilda Strength because he said it was a necessary skill for her to have, especially for carrying heavy pots about the kitchen.

Whilst she loved travelling, after seven years Brunhilda wanted to find a place of her own in which to settle. Ideally she wanted somewhere she could keep a small orchard of berry trees and have lots of residents she can share her food with. Having found so much joy from eating food from all over the world, Brunhilda now wants to pass that love and joy on to everyone she meets. A big city is not ideal. A small town sounded perfect and she found it in Pokette Town.

“Pokette Town looks like it would be an ideal place to live since so many Pokemon from all over the world have moved there! They are bound to have different food cravings from their home regions, or even places they have visited but are no longer in easy reach. This is the perfect place to test what I’ve learnt. Who better to taste my food from all over than Pokemon and humans that come from all over? And I bet I could learn a few things from them too!”

HOBBY: Trying out new recipes and raising berries.

JOB: Brunhilda hopes to have a restaurant one day, where she can change the menu regularly to serve food from all over the world. Currently she’s too busy perfecting her skills though so it may be a while before she’s completely happy with her level and could look into such a thing. She does do the occasional catering job though.

Brunhilda is a bit shorter and considerably rounder than the average Watchog.
You may notice she's a bit obsessed with berries.
Whilst she loves cooking all manner of things, her speciality is pastry, both savoury and sweet, and in particular, pies.
Most of her clothing is inspired by various Bavarian barmaid costumes.
Her surname is German and meaning 'Bavarian'.
Brunhilda's tail is longer, more flexible and fluffier than the average Watchog's. This is due to her Dad being a Smeargle.
Since moving to Pokette she has a one-sided rivalry with Ile Jacobs, because he is also a very good cook as well as another former student of Kilo Gramsey.
